Assistant Director
Dedicated to empowering girls through outdoor adventure and experiential learning
Having grown up in Waynesboro, Virginia, Savannah Lunger was an early outdoor enthusiast, spending much of her childhood hiking and camping in the Shenandoah Valley. An overnight summer camper for 6 years, she first joined Carysbrook in 2019 as Head of Canoeing, sharing her sense of adventure with campers at Lake Katherine and on the Little River and fostering belonging and fun with her campers on cabin row. After returning in 2020 as a retreat staff member for our Summer to Never Forget, Savannah grew her leadership, taking on more responsibilities and a broader presence throughout camp in 2021, mentoring staff as Activity Program Co-Coordinator and Assistant Head Counselor on senior cabin row, and campers as our pre-CIT counselor. She is also an active CCAA member, having served as the 2021’s board representative.
A 2020 graduate of the University of Mary Washington with a BA in Theatre, focusing in Arts Administration and Education, Savannah interned at the Kennedy Center’s education department. In addition to her part-time responsibilities as Carysbrook’s Assistant Director, she works at Dorothy Hamm Middle School in Arlington, Virginia as a Theatre Arts Teacher and Instructional Assistant.
Savannah will support Erika from staff hiring and recruiting, to managing activity programming and growing the next generation of women leaders by mentoring counselors-in-training in the Camp Carysbrook CIT Program. A passionate believer in the power of experiential education to transform the lives of young people, Savannah is committed to lifelong learning as she continues to build on Carysbrook’s foundational mission and philosophy to empower women and girls for years to come.
