Activities
The daily program is organized to allow the campers a choice
At Camp Carysbrook, we believe the opportunity to try new things without fear of failure and to develop a strong work ethic and perseverance is critical to the development of young women which is why we offer instruction at five skill levels in all of the activities (beginner through advanced) at camp.
What sets Camp Carysbrook apart is our dedication to developing independence by empowering campers including designing their own schedule of activities daily. Our wide range of offerings ensures that each camper can explore both new interests and longtime passions. Activities at Carysbrook include Horsebackriding, Arts & Crafts, Nature, Climbing, Targetshooting, Archery, Drama, Swimming, Synchronized Swimming, Canoeing, Caving, Outdoor Living Skills, Dance, Fencing, Recreational Sports, Tumbling, Camp Newspaper, Music, as well as Expeditions in Camp, and Out-of-Camp Trips.
Campers listen to announcements in the Dining Hall after meals and have the opportunity to participate in any activity open that day including as many as they choose during an activity period with the exception of scheduled activities. The only scheduled activity programming at Carysbrook are daily swimming lessons, optional horseback riding lessons, and trips out of camp. For safety purposes, all campers participate in swim lessons. Campers earn points for themselves and their team, Throughout the summer, campers earn points for themselves and their team, work toward mastery within each skill level, and ultimately earn charms for their pennant, tangible reminders of their growth and accomplishments.
This allows campers to practice decision-making, goal-setting, and time management disguised as fun as they customize their schedule daily based on their new and evolving interests. With decades of experience using this approach, we’ve found that girls are more willing to step outside their comfort zones, discover new strengths, and develop lasting passions. In contrast to the highly scheduled nature of school and extracurricular life, this freedom of choice is both liberating and empowering, resulting in deeper engagement, creativity, and memories that last a lifetime.
